Sheep Are Cheap
Sheep Are Cheap is a sharp alternative rock track with pop-rock energy, folk-punk edges, and a grin that is probably up to no good.
The song started with one uncomfortable question:
If you start a war - whatever you choose to call it - how do you sleep at night?
Do you still count sheep?
Or do you count drones and bombs instead?
From there, the song grew into a sarcastic late-night conversation with power itself. Not a speech, not a manifesto - more like sitting across the table from a self-proclaimed strongman in a smoky bar and asking the questions nobody around him seems willing to ask.
The verses are deliberately conversational and dry. The chorus cuts harder:
“Hey Vlad, no sleep?
No luck, no peace
Count your drones now
Sheep are cheap.”
Musically, the track mixes distorted electric guitars, bass and drums with a darker acoustic section that gives the song a slightly crooked folk-punk character. The result sits somewhere between alternative rock, pop rock and political satire - energetic on the surface, uneasy underneath.
But the song is not really about one man only.
History has seen this story many times before. Leaders, politicians and prisoners of their own egos have launched wars under different names, wrapped them in slogans, fear, pride or supposed necessity - while others pay the price.
Sheep Are Cheap looks at that machinery through sarcasm rather than solemnity.
Because sometimes ridicule cuts deeper than outrage.
And when the speeches stop, the rooms go quiet, and the applause is gone, one question remains:
How do you sleep?
#lyrics
So, Vlad, how’s your night?
You look half-alive
Glass in your hand
Smoke in your eyes
Still got men in rows
Still got yes on tap
Still got one more map
Spread on your lap
When it all goes still
When the jokes run dry
Do you hear that buzz
Under all the lies?
Hey Vlad, no sleep?
No luck, no peace
Count your drones now
Sheep are cheap
Hey Vlad, nice crown
Nice deep hole
Funny how the strongman
Still fears the dark alone
So, Vlad, how’s your court?
Still all nod and grin?
Still clap on cue
When you stagger in?
Still call fear strength?
Still call ash glory?
Still cut the truth
To fit your story?
When the room goes dark
When the last man leaves
Do you bless the locks?
Do you check the streets?
Hey Vlad, no sleep?
No luck, no peace
Count your drones now
Sheep are cheap
Hey Vlad, nice crown
Nice deep hole
Funny how the strongman
Still fears the dark alone
Lean in, tsar
Speak it low
What does the window
Murmur when it blows?
No brass band
No victory hymn
Just the glass trembling
At the edge again
Little lord of steel
Little king of flame
Does the dark say “sir”
Or just use your name?
Count them slow
One by one
Tiny wings in black
Where sleep won’t come
Hey Vlad, no sleep?
No luck, no peace
Count your drones now
Sheep are cheap
Hey Vlad, nice crown
Nice deep hole
Funny how the strongman
Still fears the dark alone
So, Vlad, long night?
You look worn and cheap
Funny thing, old man —
Even power can’t sleep
